On Finding the Right Tone
A pop-up art event organized by Catalystu ry, the association of transcultural artists in Finland.
The event was an addition to the Pekilo Mänttä Art Festival, not a part of it.
It took place in Kino Säde, Mänttä's beautiful old cinema house, the second oldest in Finland.
The place is almost not used anymore but we managed to put some life back into it.
My performance was a follow-up of the one I did in Helsinki.
I first laid some white powder on a seal.
Then I put a reed, a mouth piece and a long piece of garden hose together and started to make deep tones, squeaking noises, loud vibrations.
After some time I took scissors and cut a piece from the hose. The tone rose a bit, the squeaking too. Another cut and another and so on till I found the right tone for the event.
I finished with blowing the powder away.
